JACQUES-ALEXANDRE GENET IS A FOUNDING PARTNER OF THE FIRM. HIS MAIN AREAS OF PRACTICE ARE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LAW AND INTERNATIONAL LITIGATION. HE HAS WORLD CLASS EXPERTISE IN SOVEREIGN DEBT, INTERNATIONAL ENFORCEMENT, ASSET TRACING AND INTERIM MEASURES.

Jacques-Alexandre also advises international corporations on issues arising from doing business in France (company law, tax, immigration, labour laws), the Middle East and Africa (international sales contracts, distributorship/agency agreements, OHADA law, etc.), including in distressed contexts.

Jacques-Alexandre’s recent experience includes:

  • Advising a creditor hedge fund in the enforcement of several awards and judgments against sovereign states.
  • Representing French creditors in claims against an Eastern European state.
  • Advising a French trading company in post-fraud recovery of assets in various offshore and European jurisdictions.
  • Enforcing an arbitral award against French-located assets belonging to an Asian state.
  • Representing a European agricultural company in international arbitration proceedings in Eastern Europe.
  • Advising court-appointed or statutory receivers or liquidators, including from offshore jurisdictions.

Jacques-Alexandre is a graduate of Sciences-Po Paris, where he majored in economics and finance. He graduated in French law and English & American business law at University Paris-X Nanterre. He worked in international law firms before joining a French boutique specialising in international business law and international enforcement, of which he was joint managing partner from 2007 to 2011. He was a founding partner of the firm in 2011.

Jacques-Alexandre is a former lecturer at the Sorbonne and a frequent speaker in professional training courses, university seminars or conferences on international enforcement, asset tracing and recovery.

He recently spoke on “Argentina, Pari Passu and the Future of Vulture Litigation” (CEPR, London Business School, Sept. 2013), “The Emergence of Third Party Funders in the Ethical Landscape of Arbitration” (CCFA, Paris, June 2014), “The Latest Developments in Sovereign Debt” (CCLS, Queen Mary University of London, Paris, Oct. 2014), “Recent Trends in State Immunity from Enforcement in French and Comparative Law” (Santo Domingo, Oct. 2014), “Sovereign Immunity from Enforcement and Classification of States' Assets” (ICC, Tunis, May 2015), “'Vulture Funds' and the International Financial System: Is there any value added?” (UNCTAD, New York, Dec. 2015), or on Enforcement around the Asian region: beyond the NY Convention” (GAR Live, Hong Kong, Oct. 2016).

Jacques-Alexandre is a member of IBA (International Bar Association), EMTA (Emerging Markets Trade Association), CFA (the French Arbitration Committee), Juris Défi (a network of business lawyers), the Arbitration Council of the French-Arab Chamber of Commerce (CCFA).

GUILLAUME TATTEVIN IS A PARTNER OF ARCHIPEL SPECIALISING IN INTERNATIONAL CONTRACTS AND INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION. HE IS BASED IN GENEVA AND IS LICENCED TO PRACTICE IN FRANCE AND SWITZERLAND.

Guillaume has acted as counsel, arbitrator and tribunal secretary in more than forty arbitration proceedings in matters including transnational sales contracts, post-acquisition disputes, construction projects, aviation and renewable energy. 

He also advises clients on international commercial contracts, art sales and international investments. 

Significant recent engagements include: 

  • Representing a European company in a Swiss Rules arbitration relating to a Telecom contract. 
  • Acting as sole arbitrator under the accelerated procedure of the Swiss Arbitration Rules in a Geneva-based arbitration concerning a distribution contract. 
  • Advising a client in relation to the international sale of a major work of art. 
  • Assisting an African IT company in settlement negotiations with a blue chip company.
  • Acting for a European company in debt recovery proceedings in Switzerland.

Guillaume holds a postgraduate degree in international law from University Paris II Panthéon-Assas (2001) and an LL.M. from the University of Essex (2000).

Prior to joining Archipel, Guillaume was an attorney with LALIVE in Geneva (2008-2013), Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague (2005-2008) and an attorney with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Paris (2003-2005). 

Guillaume has contributed a number of papers to professional journals, including: Les systèmes ad-hoc de financement de l'arbitrage, JDI (Clunet) 2017-1 and Advocacy in International Commercial Arbitration (Elliott Geisinger, Guillaume Tattevin (eds), ASA Special Series, London 2013). He recently spoke on iura novit curia in Florence in October 2016; on third-party funding in May 2016 in Paris; on post-sanctions issues in relation to Cuba in May 2015 in Paris; and on the extension of arbitration clauses to non-signatories in August 2015 in Santo-Domingo.

PROSHA DEHGHANI IS A COUNSEL OF ARCHIPEL, WITH MORE THAN TEN YEARS’ EXPERIENCE IN THE PRACTICE OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND CORPORATE LAW.

Prosha advises clients on international commercial contracts and foreign trades, including advices on international sanctions (UN,EU,OFAC) and compliance issues, as well as all aspects of corporate life: joint ventures, incorporation, restructuring,  capital investment, shareholder relations and start-up-specific issues, related tax issues and intellectual property rights. Prosha also practices international and domestic employment law and litigation.

Prosha’s recent experience includes:

  • Advising a European company in negotiating and drafting agency/distribution agreements in the Middle East.

MICHAËL SCHLESINGER PRACTICES INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL LITIGATION AND ARBITRATION.

Since qualifying in 2012, Michaël has gained significant experience in a variety of enforcement and recovery procedures.

Michaël’s recent experience includes:

  • Representing expropriated individuals in the enforcement of an arbitral award against French-located assets.
  • Representing bonds holders against an East European State. 
  • Representing a French agricultural company in international arbitration proceedings in Eastern Europe.
  • Advising an Asian client in the recovery of real estate assets in France in the context of fraud by a European debtor.
  • Representing a European client in a French court claim relating to the construction of a luxury mansion.

Michaël studied law at the University of Birmingham and at University Paris II (Panthéon-Assas). He holds a postgraduate degree in Private International Law from University Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne).

Beatriz Restrepo is a Colombian-qualified lawyer specializing in international law and arbitration.

Beatriz practices international business law and arbitration. She is based in the Geneva office of Archipel.

Beatriz qualified as an attorney at the University Externado de Colombia (2005) and holds a Master’s Degree in International Arbitration and Business Law from the University of Versailles. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in business law from the University of Paris II (Panthéon-Assas). 

 

Before joining the firm in January 2016 as a junior associate, Beatriz trained with several law firms in Paris and Geneva, including August & Debouzy, Mayer Brown and Python & Peter.

Prior to joining Archipel, Caterina was an associate in the project development and finance team at Shearman & Sterling. She also interned in the litigation development of French oil and gas company Total S.A., at Bowman Gilfillan law firm in Madagascar and at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.

Caterina teaches an investment arbitration class at University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
